On vacation in Limburg
We had it in our minds for a while a vacation with a camper. But where to go? For our first trip we didn't want to drive too far, but we did want to feel like we were really getting away from it all. The province of Limburg seemed like the perfect destination. Just before our colleagues with children went on a massive summer vacation, we made our escape to the south of the Netherlands.
Day 1. Northern Limburg
Our first stop was at the border of the Schadijk Woods. As soon as we parked our camper and stepped out, we felt the peace of nature all around us. We took a walk through the dense woods, being amazed at how quiet it could be. Later that evening, we cooked a simple meal on our gas stove and enjoyed the silence around us. It was the perfect start.
Day 2. Heart of Limburg
The next day we drove to the Asbroekerheide, where our overnight spot was directly adjacent to the nature reserve. The view of Kirkelsberg was breathtaking. We started the morning with a brisk walk through the moorland and discovered all sorts of wildflowers and birds. It felt like a bit of a foreign country, but without the long journey.
Day 3. Maastricht
On our third day, we reached the banks of the Meuse River. Our camper was in an idyllic spot with a view of the Meuse River. We rented bikes and explored the area, occasionally pausing for coffee at one of the many terraces along the route. A delicious dinner and a night out in the bustling city was a nice ending to this day.
Day 4. Zuid-Limburg
We spent the last day and night in the hilly landscape of South Limburg. The rolling landscape, with its picturesque villages and wide vineyards it was as if we had landed in the south of France. Up and down hills. Luckily we had brought our walking shoes. We also visited a local winery for a tasting and enjoyed a delicious dinner at a restaurant with a breathtaking view.
More please!
This short vacation was great, an adventure close to home. So nice and easy when you rent a camper. Limburg has stolen our hearts and we look forward to returning and discovering even more of this beautiful province.
